Mr. Sams is a Shareholder in the firm. His practice is concentrated in the areas of business litigation, construction law, and insurance law.

The Martindale Hubbell National Law Directory awarded Mr. Sams an AV Rating, the highest rating for legal ability and professional ethics. In a survey state-wide, Boston Magazine named him a "Super Lawyer" in the area of construction law for 2004 and 2005. Boston Magazine named Mr. Sams a New England Super Lawyer in 2007. This designation is limited to the top 5 percent of attorneys in the Commonwealth and New England.

Mr. Sams has tried numerous cases before the Massachusetts Superior and District Courts, the United States Department of Labor, and the Department of Industrial Accidents. He has tried bid protest matters before the Attorney's General's Office, and handled appeals before the Massachusetts Appeals Court. Mr. Sams has arbitrated matters with the American Arbitration Association and the Office of Consumer Affairs. He has also mediated many cases with the various alternative dispute resolution agencies and independent mediators.

Mr. Sams spends considerable time consulting with clients regarding risk management policies and procedures, as well as contract analysis and preparation, all to lessen the potential for future litigation. He writes and speaks frequently concerning risk management, claims investigation, and construction law matters. Mr. Sams has recently lectured to industry and legal organizations including the Construction Financial Managers Association, Associated Builders and Contractors, the Boston Society of Architects, the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, the Boston Bar Association, and at both Build Boston and Residential Build Boston. These presentations have included discussions about contract risk management issues, insurance, changes to the independent contractor statute, risk management in the hiring process, and construction law updates.

He also chaired the Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education's 2005 presentation on public construction law reform, and its 2007 and 2008 programs concerning the independent contractor statute and its impact on business. Mr. Sams served on the Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education deposition workshop faculty concerning proper deposition practice from1999-2005, chaired the annual Massachusetts Bar Association program on effective writing practices from 2004 – 2006, and has alternately chaired and co-chaired the Boston Bar Association’s Law Day in the Schools program since 2004.

Mr. Sams is a member of the Massachusetts and Boston Bar Associations, including the MBA’s Civil Litigation Section and the BBA's Construction Law Committee. He is also a member of the Gould Construction Institute, where he served as Chairman of its Board of Trustees for 2007 and as a Director from 2005 through the present. He also serves on Gould’s Safety Committee. Mr. Sams is a member of Associated Builders and Contractors, the Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, where he has served as Secretary on the Executive Committee since 2007 and on its Board of Trustees since 2006, and the Construction Financial Managers Association, where he serves as Secretary on the Board of Trustees. Additionally, Mr. Sams is a member of the Massachusetts Defense Lawyers Association, where he serves on the Board of Trustees, on its Executive Committee as Treasurer, and co-chairs the Communications Committee. He is a member of the Defense Research Institute, where he serves as the Massachusetts liaison for the Business Litigation Committee. Mr. Sams is also a member of the Boston Inn of Courts, where he serves as Treasurer on its Executive Committee.

Mr. Sams received his B.A., cum laude, from the University of Rhode Island in 1990 and his J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law in 1994 where, while attending, he interned with the Massachusetts Appeals Court. He is admitted to practice in all Massachusetts courts, including the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
